Phoenix brand cigarettes were designed and registered by Shanghai Tobacco Industry Company in 1956, produced by Nanyang Tobacco Factory, and produced by Shanghai Cigarette No. 2 Factory in 1959. In August 1966, some people reported that the Phoenix brand trademark "had feudal overtones" and stopped production. In 1972, Shanghai Cigarette Factory successfully trial-produced the external flavor style sample cigarette, applying the original Phoenix brand trademark. After verification, Phoenix brand cigarettes were confirmed as external flavored cigarettes.
